Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hi. My name is Casey Cook and I'm a 24-year-old Rhode Island native / now Los Angeles based songwriter, artist, and vocalist. Through my musical theatre upbringing and choir involvement I found a strong passion for singing and decided to pursue a music career. I taught myself piano by ear to write songs and I started releasing my music in 2016. In addition to my solo artist project I write pop and EDM, and feature for DJs and other artists around the world. I like to think of myself as a messenger of emotion, songwriting with honesty and vulnerability, creating melodic melancholic feels.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I've been influenced by a handful of artists over the years (Sara Bareilles, Christina Perri, Adele, Banks, Ellie Goulding, Astrid S, Oh Wonder, Julia Michaels, and way more). I have gravitated towards an ethereal chill pop sound, highly concentrated on melodies, emotion, and space. I grew up listening to powerhouse pop vocalists such as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera along with a lot of Broadway belters.. but it wasn't until I discovered the sweet angelic tones of Sara Bareilles and Ellie Goulding, (also Kate Nash, Ingrid Michaelson, Colbie Caillat) around high school, that I fell in love with the sweet spots of those breathy voices, and recognized that was my lane. Ellie Goulding inspired me to pursue EDM as a featured vocalist for DJs, which then led me to discover other female vocalists; Skylar Grey, Bright Lights, Foxes, and more. I also strongly connected with haunting, edgy undertones (Banks, Tove Lo, Traces) and decided I wanted to incorporate those melancholic feels in my music too.
I've always been a fan of emotional voices that connect with listeners, organic acoustic covers, and any kind of stripped down production that allows the voice to shine. Over the years I'd say my taste is combining ambient tones, having organic, intentional production (especially ear candy) and having melodies be the focal point of the story. I'm big on unpredictability in percussion, and the use of space/ sounds in the track. Less is more in my opinion.
What´s new right now?
Yes! I've got a couple collaborations coming out mid January-early February. I'll be releasing singles under my artist project, which I'm really excited about. (leaning towards an EP) I have songs in circulation with other artists TBA, and I have songs with up-and-coming DJs that are featuring me. There's a LOT in the works this year… I'm excited. Stay tuned!
